It seems the last more complicated than deprive pirates of financial resources. The CEO said it is necessary to block the casino advertising. But according to last researches the casino advertising is not favorite among advertisers anymore.

Ministry of culture wants to count each film view in online cinemas

Russian Ministry of Culture (MinCult) has proposed to track each film view in online cinema in special system (single federal informational automatic system of data on films demonstrations in cinema spaces). According to MinCult’s idea online cinemas have to connect to this system and provide it with data required and at their own account. Certainly online cinemas don’t like this idea.

Right holders are dissatisfied by Yandex’s execution of antipiracy memo

Major Russian right holders, holding rights in audio-visual works, and Yandex have signed anti-piracy memorandum, the agreement aiming to delete links or pirate web-sites from search results. In order to execute this memo Yandex have developed its own bot – special software searching for illegal sources of right holders’ content. The bot is not only means of memo execution, but the main, and right holders, who signed this memo, are dissatisfied on its work.

No quota for screening of foreign movies in Russian cinemas

Russian ministry of culture (MinCult) has once proposed to set up a quota for screening foreign movies in Russian cinemas. The proposal was aimed at Hollywood movies in order to secure more opportunities for Russian movies. Mincult was of opinion that such measure would have positive impact on Russian box office and movie industry.

New antipiracy memorandum for book publishers has been proposed

Recently audiovisual right holders have signed antipiracy memorandum with Russian search and IT companies like Yandex but without participation of Google. The main goal of this memo is de-indexing links to pirate web-resources without court order and elimination of all such links from search results. Russian search engines have signed this memo, but without enthusiasm. Book publishers and right holders also want to sign similar memo, because IT counterparts of memo underlined that the memo covers only audiovisual works.

Russian audiovisual right holders made online cinemas to use third party system of reporting

Online distribution of audio-visual content in Russia plays prominent and leading role in Russian internal market. The right holders take online distribution very seriously because it makes money even when the movie is not shown in cinemas. Anyway, the right holders are not happy with statistics provided by the online cinemas. On the basis of this statistics the cinemas calculate royalties and pay them to right holders. Right holders want statistics from the third party.

When the mediums like CD or DVD were in demand and in order to prevent illegal distribution of movies, software and music on mediums and to comply with international copyright obligations the Russian legislators have introduced licensing procedure for those who want to manufacture and release content on such mediums like CD or DVD.

Yandex settles copyright lawsuit with audiovisual right holders

Russian IT company Yandex settles copyright dispute with audiovisual right holders belonging to Russian major media company Gazprom Media. Earlier right holders have sued Yandex for copyright infringement. In parallel they negotiated with IT company antipiracy memorandum. Finally IT company and right holders have signed it. One of condition to sign memo was dropping the lawsuit against Yandex.
