Russian Roskomnadzor has created a special department handling possibilities to restrict access to internet services

In one of Roskomnadzor’s organisations, in Federal State Unitary Organisation (FGUP) “The main radio-frequency center”, has been created a special department. This department should discover, explore and analyse a different opportunities of restriction of access to different internet services. It would make practical experiments and research in the field of blocking of access to internet resources for ISP customers.

2017 report on EU customs enforcement of intellectual property rights

The annual publication of the result of customs actions at the EU external borders provides an opportunity to measure the scale of customs actions to enforce IPR. Newly published report on EU customs enforcement on IPR contains statistical information about the detentions made under customs procedures and includes data on the description, quantities and value of the goods, their provenance, the means of transport and the type of intellectual property right that may have been infringed.

Russian Roskomnadzor under enforcement fire due to fraud allegations

Three top executives of Russian Roskomnadzor are under investigation. Russian investigative committee has initiated a criminal case and leads investigation in relation to executives of Roskomnadzor. There are three persons involved in this case – Vadim Ampelonsky (press secretary of Roskomnadzor), Boris Edidin (chief of legal department at Roskomnadzor) and Aleksandr Veselchakov.

Russian Yandex cited weak sides in MinCult’s DMCA

Russian Ministry of Culture has proposed to restrict access to pirate web-sites available in Russia without court order. Actually there are a lot of MinCult’s ideas (1,2) aiming to protect intellectual property in Russia and fight with digital piracy. Russian company Yandex believes MinCult’s proposal provides search engines with authority and functions similar to those of courts.

Russian Ministry of Culture has proposed its analogue of USA DMCA

Russian Ministry of Culture (MinCult) has proposed amendments to Russian copyright law in order to shut down pirate web-sites very fast and without bureaucracy. According to these amendments, operator of search engine must publish on web-site of search engine its trading name, place and address of residence and email address for communication.

It was proposed to impose sales tax on overseas online retailers in Russia

Russian association of online retailers (AKIT) has developed new amendments to Russian law. These amendments aim to impose additional tax on online outlets selling goods in Russian marketplace. If the companies, who would be obliged to pay new tax, will not pay this tax, the access to their web-sites, i.e. online trading platforms, will be restricted in Russia by Roskomnadzor at the request of Russian tax service.

Russian enforcement authorities take the fighting with counterfeits very seriously

When Russian president has mentioned his concerns about the scales of counterfeits in Russian light industry, the Prosecutor General’s office has reported its achievements and statistics demonstrating what has been done. According to office it was revealed 19 thousands violations of law, including organization of illegal migration and violations of rules in the field of public procurement.
