Cut off internet and don’t worry be happy, believes Russian president’s councilor on internet

Many developed countries work hard in order to provide informational security in national interests. They adopt new laws, adapt to new digital realities, but internet, at least most part of it, is not banned. But sometimes it is easy to simulate hard work, instead of to do it. The only way to provide informational security in Russia is to enforce restrictions on internet like in China, believes German Klimenko, Russian president’s councilor on internet.

Draft proposal for a directive on copyright in DSM – cultural heritage institutions

For the purposes of Directive, works and other subject-matter should be considered to be permanently in the collection of a cultural heritage institutions when copies are owned or permanently held by the cultural heritage institution, for example as a result of a transfer of ownership or licence agreements.

2016 report on EU customs IPR enforcement

In 2015, customs authorities made over 81.000 detentions, consisting of a total of 43.7 million articles. The domestic retail value of the detained articles represented over 640 million euros. This report contains statistical information about the detentions made under customs procedures and includes data on the description, quantities and value of the goods, their provenance, the means of transport and the type of intellectual property right that may have been infringed.

New idea how to resolve a problem with mirrors of pirate websites in Russia

People like good music, movies and other entertaining content, especially when the interest to such content is really high thanks to advertisement or high ratings. Producing of such content requires time and money and right holders expect to make good money on their assets. And when they see their content on pirate website, certainly they make everything, what they can, in order to block the access to their content disseminated illegally.

In view of a potentially high number of access requests to and downloads of their works or other subject-matter, rightsholders should be allowed to apply measures where there is risk that the security and integrity of the system or databases where the works or other subject-matter are hosted would be jeopardised.

Rapporteur welcomes (de) the EU Action Plan on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and, in particular, emphasises the importance of and supports the application of due diligence throughout the supply chain, the ‘follow the money’ approach, the improvement of civil enforcement procedures for SMEs as regards IP, the targeted communication campaign and the focus on commercial-scale IPR infringements.
