Such companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon and others with diversified business activities almost around the world are also presented in Russian internal market. Except such companies there are also Russian digital companies in Russia, but mostly with foreign owner or stakeholder, i.e. such companies are also in some sense a foreign companies. The most problem in competition with foreign market players in Russian internal market is rough and sometimes unreasonable regulation affecting Russian market players.

The Russian major telecommunication operator, providing different telecommunication services in Russia, has proposed to collect so called “digital traces” of Russian citizens under the control of Russian state. In other words the monopolist Rostelecom want control almost all aspects of life of Russian citizens.

First criminal sentence in Russia for illegal online cinema

The blocking of web-resources doesn’t work effectively in the fight with online piracy in Russia. Actually restriction of access in Russia is possible under the court order in relation to certain address, mostly it is domain name. It is also possible to block mirror web-site, i.e. the site almost identical with blocked one, but with different domain name. But it is also is not as effective as right holders desire. Therefore the measures are going to be rigorous.

It is not good to much advertising in cinema legislators believe and little bit more for today

The new draft law providing limits for advertising is introduced for consideration in Russian state duma. The law aims to reduce the duration of advertising showing before film running. The reason is the advertising can lasts from 15 to 30 minutes. Actually the viewers use this time in order to buy something to make movie viewing more pleasant. The legislators believe the advertising is shown contrary to the will of viewers in violation of Russian law. But the draft law does not provide liability for its violation.

TV channels can cut off telecom operators from their broadcast

The Russian TV channels are very concerned when their broadcast is available in internet without their permission. The ad revenues, generated by such broadcast, flow to the packets of providers making TV channels’ broadcast available in internet. Besides TV channels don’t always have online rights for certain programming they broadcast. TV channels want control online consuming of their programming, including ad revenue generating by online broadcasting, the ad revenues generated by traditional TV decreasing each year.

Book publishers to block YouTube and Yandex.Video in Russia and little bit more for today

Russian book publishers have not concluded the anti-piracy memorandum with Russian search engine – the so called Russian Google – Yandex. The audio-visual right holders have this memo, book publishers have not received cherished word “agree” from search engine, perhaps therefore they so aggressively defend their rights in online environment and especially make complaints in court towards to Yandex. May be they hint to conclude anti-piracy memo on books?

Ministry of culture wants to limit box office for successful movies

Russian ministry of culture has finally proposed draft law aiming to set limits for foreign movies, in particular for hollywood movies. The main purpose of the draft law is to provide more opportunities for those movies which can’t attract viewers’ attention. In other words the law proposes to limit the quantity of film sessions in single cinema. For these purposes the law even provides definition for cinema.

Roskomnadzor knows who disseminates fake news in Russia

Russian internet watchdog Roskomnadzor has made a little surprise for Russian public. It has published on its web-site the list of resources where it has found fake news, in other words the Russian internet watchdog has pointed by finder who disseminates fake news in Russia. But the fact is this list is very strange because the mass media have been mentioned in this list because they don’t read all comments in their accounts on social networks.

Fighting with piracy by white listing and little bit more for today…

How to fight piracy in internet? The question is rhetorical. Many countries develop and implement in their national law systems different mechanisms aiming to reduce illegal distruction of illicit articles or content. But Russian experts have much better idea – white listing of web-resources. It is some kind of idea to make internet like closed club with entrance fee. If you want you web-site online – licence it not for content, but for declaration that it is legal.
