When “retransmission” is a transmission without initial broadcast for copyright clearance purposes

The case concerns the question of retransmission of broadcasts, cf. section 34 of the Copyright Act, when a cable company distributes television channels, which it receives in a closed electronic transmission, but which are broadcast simultaneously via satellite and the terrestrial network.

Cut off internet and don’t worry be happy, believes Russian president’s councilor on internet

Many developed countries work hard in order to provide informational security in national interests. They adopt new laws, adapt to new digital realities, but internet, at least most part of it, is not banned. But sometimes it is easy to simulate hard work, instead of to do it. Preliminary Report on the E-commerce Sector Inquiry – rights licencing

In relation to digital content, the sector inquiry investigates the presence of territorial restrictions and geo-blocking in the online distribution of digital content. The sector inquiry also examines the prevalent copyright licensing models for online distribution and their possible impact on competition, in particular, with respect to market entry and the possibility of developing new business models or new services.

Draft proposal for a directive on copyright in DSM – cultural heritage institutions

For the purposes of Directive, works and other subject-matter should be considered to be permanently in the collection of a cultural heritage institutions when copies are owned or permanently held by the cultural heritage institution, for example as a result of a transfer of ownership or licence agreements.

2016 report on EU customs IPR enforcement

In 2015, customs authorities made over 81.000 detentions, consisting of a total of 43.7 million articles. The domestic retail value of the detained articles represented over 640 million euros. This report contains statistical information about the detentions made under customs procedures and includes data on the description, quantities and value of the goods, their provenance, the means of transport and the type of intellectual property right that may have been infringed.
