Sports.ru accused Match TV of using texts from sports.ru’s web-site illegally

Few days ago Match TV accused Sports.ru of copyright infringements. Now vise-versa. CEO of sports.ru, Dmitry Navosha, explained why sports.ru does not sue Match TV. According to Navosha, correspondent from Match TV in his reportage has read text from sports.ru without any reference to resource (sports.ru). Nevosha underlined that it was not occasional. Such things happen regularly.

Russian TV channel Match TV sued web-resource Sports.ru for copyright infringement

According to suit, Match TV believes web-resource illegally demonstrates highlights of two matches FNL, as it is stated on sports.ru’s web-site. Match TV claims it spends a lot of money in order to acquire rights in content from official right holders. First court hearing will be 30th of May.

Sometimes Russian Roskomnadzor handles disputes on copyright infringement much better than courts

National sport channel has asked the court to apply “interim measures” in relation to web-site sports.ru in order to protect copyright in broadcasting television programs of “NTV Plus Sport” and “Our Football”. In other words, company asked the court to block web-site for copyright infringement of TV channels. The claimant asserts its programs were streamed without proper consent of right holder.

The most popular program Windows has been installed in different versions on many millions of devices, and the fact is that not all copies of this program are duly licenced. Russian ministry of culture proposed hard measures to fight internet piracy in order to protect national films

Russian ministry of culture (MinCult) proposed hard measures to fight piracy in internet – blocking of access to web-sites, disseminating Russian national films in violation of Russian law, within two days without court order. These measures can be included in new draft law on blocking of access to mirrors of pirate website.

Be careful when choosing territory for copyright litigation

In this case, the Welsh Government, a political subdivision of the United Kingdom, and various media companies were accused of using two photographs depicting the poet Dylan Thomas without authorization and in violation of the Copyright Act. Plaintiffs, owners of the copyrights in these photos, are Pablo Star Ltd. and Pablo Star Media Ltd. (“Plaintiffs”) – two related companies that are “organized and registered under the laws of Ireland and the United Kingdom.”

Popular Russian “Ural dumplings” lost their trademark in court

“Ural dumplings” are very popular in Russia and their brand is recognizable. Therefore for them it was very important to keep control over trademark. But the last court decision has been concluded not in their favour. “Ural dumplings” LLC filed complaint to Moscow commercial court and asked to admit trademark agreement, concluded with First Hand Media LLC, as null and void. Ural dumplings wanted to get back their trademark.

Speculation is not enough for triable issue of access in copyright infringement case

Will Loomis, composer of the song “Bright Red Chords,” alleged that the defendants stole a two-measure vocal melody and used it as the theme for the verse melody in their hit song “Domino.” The panel held that Loomis did not put forth any potentially admissible evidence to establish that the Domino songwriters had access to Bright Red Chords, either on a chain-of-events theory or a widespread-dissemination theory. Accordingly, he failed to establish copyright infringement.
