Ennio Morricone wants his copyright in music for three films back

Composer filed suit seeking a declaratory judgment that Marricone Music is the sole proprietor of the United States copyright in three film scores composed by Ennio Morricone and that all United States rights to those film scores now being claimed by Bixio Music were terminated. This case arises out of an actual controversy between Morricone Music and Bixio both of which have asserted competing claims to public performance royalties collected by the ASCAP from the public performance of the film scores in the US.

Plaintiffs asserted that Defendants infringed Plaintiffs’ exclusive rights in their copyright to Plaintiffs’ Rise screenplay, in violation of Title 17 U.S.C. § 106, by preparing unauthorized derivative works, namely Defendants’ God’s Not Dead (“GND”) screenplay and motion picture. Plaintiffs alleged that as a result of Defendants’ copyright infringement, Plaintiffs were prevented from making the Rise film and each receiving their 50% interests.

Technical consultation on transitional arrangements following the repeal of Section 73 of the CDPA 1988 (reception and re-transmission of wireless broadcast by cable)

This technical consultation concerns only the elements of the Government response that recommend repealing Section 73 of the Copyright, Designs, and Patents Act 1988. Section 73 currently states that the copyright in a broadcast is not infringed where that broadcast is retransmitted via cable. More specifically, this technical consultation considers the practical impacts of the repeal of Section 73, and any necessary transitional arrangements.

Russian authorities will be punished for purchase of imported software

If officers in Russian authorities will buy imported (foreign) software on account of Russian state while there will be offers of Russian analogues, relevant Russian authority, buying such software, will be imposed with fine. For these purposes necessary amendments will be developed to Russian administrative code by Russian ministry of economic development and Russian ministry of communication.
