Russian state duma proposed to exclude foreign movies and shows from broadcasting

Russian deputies believe they know how to improve the development of national film- and tv-show-making. They proposed to exclude any competition between Russian movies and tv shows and foreign – exclude foreign entertainment products from Russian television.

Deputies from one political party develop draft law prohibiting major television channels licensing of rights in foreign content. It could lead to significant saving of funds by channels and such funds could be spend on Russian entertainment products. The foreign content includes movies, serials, cartoons, programs produced in accordance with licences concluded with foreign right holders. Foreign movies people can watch in cinemas or other services, like online platforms or video-on-demand.
