Russian Hadopi has reported its fabulous outcomes on fights with piracy in internet

Despite the fact that many stakeholders from entertainment industry claim the current Russian copyright law in its part providing the measures against internet piracy is ineffective, the Roskomnadzor – internet watchdog and “Russian Hadopi” – reports how many pirate web-sites it has blocked and how many illegal copies of content have been deleted.

Yandex is not going to give up in fight with right holders

Three Russian television channels have filed complaints against Yandex aiming to block illegal copies of four serials. All three complaints require Yandex to “cease creation of technical conditions causing providing of illegal copies of audiovisual works in question in search results”. The complaints also seek 10 thousands Roubles as compensation for infringement of exclusive rights. Yandex is not agreed with position of TV channels and intends to oppose requirement to block referrals to pirate copies in search results.

Russian Supreme Court clarified practical guidance on criminal cases for likes and reposts

But this guidance has been considered by the most part of professionals very skeptical. Supreme Court has strengthened the subjective criteria in its guidance for consideration of criminal cases on extremism by Russian courts what in general does not make a difference in consideration of criminal cases for likes and reposts in social networks. Overall consideration of such cases will depend on evaluative position of the judge.

Russian cinemas asked the Russian authorities to forget about the quotas for movies

Recently Russian ministry of culture (MinCult) proposed to set up quotas for screening of movies in cinemas in Russia. Not more than 35% of all screenings for one movie, except the national one, i.e. produced in Russia. This proposal aimed to “support fair competition in Russian market” and provide equal screening opportunities for all movies.

The increasing imbalance between powerful platforms and press publishers, which can also be news agencies, has already led to a remarkable regression of the media landscape on a regional level. In the transition from print to digital, publishers and news agencies of press publications are facing problems in licensing the online use of their publications and recouping their investments. In the absence of recognition of publishers of press publications as right holders, licensing and enforcement in the digital environment is often complex and inefficient.

The law toughening punishment for failure to delete false information from internet adopted in third reading

The Russian state duma has adopted amendments to Russian administrative code and Russian criminal code in third – final – reading. These amendments toughen liability for failure to delete false information from internet under the court order prescribing to cease dissemination of such information or to notify that such information is false.

Russian ministry of culture considers another restriction of distribution for foreign movies

Russian ministry of culture (MinCult) has published amendments to the law on cinema. These amendments one more time confirm the special relation attitude of MinCult to the foreign movies, especially to Hollywood movies. Perhaps because the people prefer Hollywood movies which are demonstrated in Russian cinemas more often than Russian movies?
